SKYWARN Spotter Training
Online
SKYWARN® Spotter Training Courses are offered by the COMET® Program as part of
its educational partnership with the Natianl Weather Service (NWS). The goal of
the course is to provide baseline training for all spotters through multiple
modules covering the procedures for spotting (including communication and
spotter report criteria) and safety considerations for all hazards.

Skywarn Spotter Convective Basics

Course Overview:
The
“SKYWARN® Spotter Convective Basics” module will guide users to a basic
understanding of convective storms. Through three different scenarios, you will
cover reporting and proper communication of local storm reports to the National
Weather Service (NWS).

The National Severe Storms
Laboratory
The National Severe
Storms Laboratory serves the nation by working to improve the leadtime and
accuracy of severe weather warnings and forecasts in order to save lives and
reduce property damage. NSSL scientists are committed to their mission to
understand the causes of severe weather and explore new ways to use weather
information to assist National Weather Service forecasters and federal,
university and private sector partners.
